HONEYCOMB HIVE RESCUE, a math escape room game with 120 math pyramid locks for ages 7 to 10
High on Clover Hill, a family of honeybees lives in an old hollow oak. Every morning their scout bees dance to show the others where the flowers grow. But a summer storm has made the scouts forget their dance, and the way to the flowers is lost! Follow Fenna the bumblebee through twelve gardens, open the honeycomb locks, open each garden gate and find the twelve steps of the bee dance. Then follow the whole dance on the meadow map to lead the hive to the flowers.
THIS IS A DIGITAL GAME FOR A WEB BROWSER, PLUS A PRINTABLE PDF. It is not a book and nothing is shipped.
- The interactive game is the HTML file. It opens in a web browser after unzipping, checks your answers, gives hints and saves your progress on your device. It works offline: no internet, no account, no ads.
- The PDF is a printable paper version of the same adventure. It is not interactive: you solve with a pencil and check with the answer key at the back. It works completely by itself.
How It Plays
- Twelve gardens along the garden path, each with ten honeycomb locks. Every lock is a number pyramid of six-sided cells: every cell is the sum of the two cells under it
- Each open lock gives a garden token with a digit; four tokens open the garden gate
- Behind the gate: a dot picture. Solve, join the dots made by your answers, and a picture appears (an acorn, a ladybird, a hedgehog and nine more)
- Every dot picture brings one step of the bees' waggle dance. Follow all twelve steps on the meadow map to find where the flowers are
- New: Garden Count picture locks. Count the ladybirds, snails, daisies or flowerpots in a garden scene to find the missing number
- Stars for every lock (three with no help), a garden path map, a dance map and a Hive Hero Certificate with your name
- Six 60-second Pollen Rushes for quick mental math
- A true fact about bees and flowers in every garden: twelve in all
